What is a fair salary for a mid-level fundraiser at a small Indian NGO right now? Making an offer and I do not want to underpay someone.
Depends on three things and the range is wide, so let me be specific rather than useless.
Metro, 3-6 years experience, org budget under 5 crore: I am seeing 6 to 9.5 lakh. Tier-2 city, same experience: 4.5 to 7. Below that you will get applicants but you will lose them within eighteen months, which costs you more than the difference.
The thing that actually moves candidates is not the top of the band, it is whether the number is fixed or has a variable component. Please do not make it commission-based, see the other thread on this. Fixed, reviewed annually, stated clearly in the letter.
Tier-2, and the person has about 4 years. So 5 to 6.5 realistically?
That is defensible. If you can find 7 for someone genuinely good, pay the 7 and ask them to own the whole funnel. The gap between an adequate fundraiser and a good one is worth far more than 50k a year.
as the person on the other side of these offers, please put the number in the job ad. ‘salary commensurate with experience’ wastes everyone’s week
